Hengistbury head

Hengistbury head today for a walk and a trip to the beach with our youngest grandson. It's a lovely spot for walking dogs, playing on the beach with little ones and has a great cafe too. The Noddy train is fun as well. Large car park and free parking on road for up to an hour.

Mudeford Quay ferry walk

Beautiful outing this morning over to the sandspit from Mudeford quay. We had a coffee and lovely hot sausage rolls at The Beach cafe between the beach huts), takeaways only during January. The car park is a couple of pounds for two hours and £1.50 each way for the ferry (75p for child, dogs and under ones free). It runs from 10am until 4pm weekends only in the winter. There is also another cafe which is open at the Quay. From the ferry jetty you can enjoy a walk on the beach or go up over the headland. It is pretty cold and blowy though. Only for the hardy at the moment. Enjoy.

Hengistbury head

Hengistbury head, the Noddy train and coffee and cake at the Hikers cafe, a great start to the New Year and a super place for all the family. Parking is £1.50 and the Noddy Train is £1.80 for adults, so a whole family is around £5 one way. We usually walk one way with the little ones and return on the land train.

Hengistbury head always makes a lovely spot for a winter's walk. Great for all the family. Parking is only £1.50 in the winter months and the Hikers cafe and Noddy train are both open for business during the winter. The visitors centre is a good place to go too.

You can walk along the beach, up over the headland or along waters edge of the harbour. Lots of lovely birds there and good sand down at the sandspit where the beach huts are. Here you can return on the Noddy train, something the little ones love to do.

A lovely walk at Hengistbury head this morning. It's always a great family walk. We went with our daughters and young grandchildren. First parking at the main car park and walking down to the beach to look for pebbles. Then it was up onto the headland. It's a great path for taking a buggy, just two places where they need to be lifted manually. We enjoyed a coffee up there before returning to the spit and waiting for a ride on the Noddy train. This always runs up and down to the beach huts and children and dogs love a ride back to the Hiker cafe for lunch. You can't beat their Bacon and mushroom baps. Car parking now at summer rate. £4 for 3 hours.

Hengistbury Head, Dorset.

A beautiful walk with our daughter, two year old granddaughter and our dog Phoebe at Hengistbury Head today. Parking is £1 for up to two hours or £1.50 for up to 24 hours at the moment. We walked over to the beach and up onto the headland before descending to the sandspit and catching the Noddy train back to the Hiker's cafe for a rather super late lunch. The train is £1.80 for adults, children 60p and under 4's are free. The dog was 21p. A great fun day out for under a tenner if you took a picnic but it was much too cold for one today. It's also a great spot for bird watching and ancient history too. There are double dykes dating back to the the bronze age and an ancient iron working used maining in the 1800's
