Mons to Vieussan on the long route today, in some wild weather; rain, rainbows, wind and sunshine. 12km, 2h45, no markers. Starting in Mons head down to Ornac, crossing the Jaur and going through the hamlet. Head on the little track road up to Fenouillède, keep left, then on to Costeplane, keep left again here and down the main track. Do not turn onto any of the small paths as they all head back to Ornac (unless you want to make a round trip). Now go down to reach Courbou. Again don't take the small path but go around the back of the houses on a grassy path to reach a couple of small stream crossings. Here the track becomes a small rocky path and reaches the Col de Courbou. There is a path up to the top of Naudech here and a wide one down on your left, but don't take either of these. Cross straight over and walk down the wide track (marked red/yellow) that faces Vieussan. There are lovely views here down to the river and the village with it's castle tower. Keep going all the way down this track until you reach a col. The red/yellow track turn left here and a little way on you will see a small path on your left heading down. Follow this path down, it's a little step and rocky in places but avoids going down on the Berlou road. You will soon find yourself on the last bend of the road before the bridge to Vieussan. If you cross the bridge you can take the small path straight up into the village itself, with its lovely old houses.
This is a good route for views and flowers, especially orchids between April and June.
