Lac de Vezoles

Lac de Vezoles. 6.5km. 2H, An easy walk on the level around the lake. Still not a lot of water in the lake but the walk is lovely and the views down into the valley below are tremendous; all the way down to the Pyrenees and the coast.

This time we started in the first of the two parking areas. This one is a rather bumpy track but the other one is a good road. We turned left onto the trail at the picnic benches, it's is marked yellow all the way around. The trail goes at first through beech trees and then pines, with areas of boardwalk and also grassland.

You can access the lake on this side if you want to go down to it or to fish. Keep going around until you reach the stream and then turn right on the road. Very soon you pass Mas blanc, a large old stone building used by groups, there were some ladies making baskets as we passed today. Turn right again at the buildings onto a small path beside beech trees and the the trail alternates between the track and grassy paths over meadows.

There are several good picnic areas with benches on this side of the lake. When you finally join the track for the last time you will come to a junction where you turn right and head down to the dam. Once over the dam either head up to see the view point or keep to the right around the lake to return to the cars.

If you decide to go up to the rocky viewpoint you can either return by the road and then take a right through the woods or there is an extension to the trail which is rather wonderful of about 4.5km. We saw a lovely deer up her and watched the eagles too. Not many flowers about now but there were still plenty of butterflies enjoying the ones that are still about and the heather is rather lovely up there too.
