A lovely short walk, taking around 2 hours/3 miles, starting near fields and over open heathland, it returns on a high path with lovely views. Circular/easy family walk. This is a great walk to do with all the family and dogs too. It begins by parking outside the school at Moyles court and with the stream behind you walking a few metres up the road to reach the signpost for the Avon valley path. Take this path up between the fields of horses (this is the worst part of the route with a short very muddy area of the path), after reaching the top, turn left and continue to another gate. Keep left along the edge of the common until you come to a house. Descend to a wood boarded walk and after crossing a small footbridge turn right. Keep on this path to reach a pond at the top of the hill. This is summerlug hill. Opposite the pond on your right is a small path across the heather follow this until it descends on a stony path to a small river in thin woodland.(Dockens water). Cross the road and take the small path opposite that goes up hill with lovely views of the valley and open heath. Continue on this path until you reach a crossroads of path, then take the wide sandy path to your right. Continue on this path all the way across Rockford common until you descend to a sandy cliff and car park. Cross the ford at the bottom on the road where you with return to the cars. Super walk with lots of interest for children, plenty of rope swings, deer, horses, cows, trees and sandy cliffs climb. Although there is a map at the end of my pictures. I would recommend getting the little New Forest walks book by Crimson short walks. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Short-Walks-Forest-Nat…/…/1854585312
