Caroux.

Fantastic 8 hour walk on the Caroux .Grade D. It would normally have been around 6 hours, 13km. but I took it easy with going slowly and plenty of breaks. You can either park at the Heric gorge (Charge)or in the village of Mons La Trivalle and walk from there. Take the yellow and red trail as far as the St Martin turn off and then the red trail to the Refuge de Font Salesse. Here turn left. It leads to a most beautiful area above the (Rieutord) Roc de Caroux or the rock that is the head of the women laying down. At the moment (July/August) the whole area is covered in purple heather, a magnificent sight. There are a couple of routes down from here, but unless you like scrambling I would go back along the edge of the plateaux toward Douch and take the GR7( marked Red/white), Heric path down, its all under the trees and a welcome change from the heat. You end up back on the Heric track down to the car park. Take plenty of water. There are some wonderful places to stop for rests and picnics. Enjoy. Not difficult from a climbing point of view, but tiring.
