circuit of the Caroux.

Amazing, incredible walk. Nearly 8 hours.19km from Mons.Grade E. I Walked up the Heric gorge on the main route and then turn right at the little house in the hamlet of Heric offering drinks and snacks Go on to the col du Salis, turn right once again and uphill to the next col. At the col de l'Airole I took the small track opposite onto the Caroux plateaux. I didn't want to take the normal route down so I headed on the GR7 to turn left through the forest on a small grassy path ending at some large rocks and then heading down a little path that forms a white/green forest boundary. When you get to a large cairn turn right and look out for the yellow route down to La Barriere. funny enough, once I found the route I turned off and went across the rocks at the ponail des cades, marked yellow/red( This route is quite difficult, don't under estimate it) and then turned off at the col E des jonquilles on a tiny path down to St Martin de l'Arcon (this path is very steep and not easy to follow), marked blue. Once in St Martin go down into the village and turn right and left on the blue path. Turn right onto the yellow path and head to la Coste. Once here follow the yellow markers through the village and turn left onto the path to the gorge. Amazing walk!! If anyone else fancies this walk you have to be mad or have a good sense of adventure. Lots of rocks to climb.
You can park in Mons (free) and walk to the gorge, or park at the gorge (3 Euros). This was a spring walk.
