A wonderful walk up over Martin Down, along Bokerley Ditch and on to Pentridge Down. 5 mile/8km. Parking at the large Martin Down nature reserve car park (Free) at Bokerley Junction near Woodyates, on the A354. Walk up along the edge of the Bokerley Ditch to reach the top of the hill just past the woodland to your right. Then take the path to your right. There are two tracks, go through gate which is the left track. Follow the track to reach a field, keep to the edge of the field and you will come to a gate. Turn left after the gate beside the old farm machinery. At the top of the field turn right and continue on the top of the hill to the woodland. There are wonderful views on the whole of this walk but up here you can see in every direction for miles. A good spot for a picnic. Follow the path to your right from the trig point that leads down off of Pentridge Down to reach the village below. At the bottom of the field you will reach a stile and a small path into the tiny village of Pentridge. In the village turn right and keep on the little road to reach a farm. Keep left up a wide track until you come to a field, keep to the edge of the field. At a junction keep right and continue on the edge of the field. At the end of the field turn right and then left over the last stile. (This is the only problem along this route. The still is narrow, the post wobbles, it's high and there is just a little plastic bag covering the barbed wire). After crossing the stile you have to make your way up and over the Bokerley ditch, which would be ok if it hadn't been covered in hard frost today. Turn left onto the path at the bottom and head back to the car park. Lovely walk. Even our collie was satisfied today.
