Roujan

A walk around the hills and farmland north of Roujan today. 10km. blue markers. Easy. This is the lower half of a 15 km walk. The walk begins in Roujan parking just on the corner of the Pouzolles road (junction of D15 and D13). A few yards up the road is a small track/road to the left, you will see the blue marker. Take this track until it reaches a junction and turn right. This track will take you down to the chateau de Cassan. Here you can walk all the way around the buildings and gardens(turn left past the main gate). There are plenty of signs telling you all about it's fascinating history. Once you return to the car park you will see a little tunnel under the road leading to a small lane opposite. Take this lane down to a gate of a hose and then to the left on a stoney track that continues on. (no markers on this section)Turn right here and continue for some time. There is a small lane on your right that goes down to pass a house, shortly you will come to a left turn into a small track that winds it's way to the D125.Turn right onto the road and walk a short way up it ignoring the blue marker on the left (this is where the longer walk rejoins). Shortly you will see a right turn with a blue marker on the post. Take this track and go uphill past a house and onto a hill with lovely views of the local area and the Avant Monts. At a junction you will see the blue markers to cross a vineyard. This track will now take you back into Roujan. Cross the roundabout and take the road opposite to reach the parking (You could alternatively park in the car park at the Chateau as it is on the route). The northern part of the walk looks quite delightful and is mostly on stoney tracks and grassy paths over small pueches). There were lots of beautiful early orchids on the way and it was lovely to see so much almond blossom too. There appears to be a number of other colour marked paths in the area and the area was popular with walking groups.
