Fraisse-sur-Agout, Herault, France

Fraisse-sur-Agout. 2H/8k. A beautiful walk in the cool Espinouse mountains today. This walk is mostly under trees and there is plentiful water in small streams and rivers for dogs thought the walk. It was about 25c, so a nice temperature for walking. The walk begins by talking the beautiful route up the D14 to reach the lovely floral village of Fraisse-sur-Agout. Parking is in the centre of the village. Turn left and head off on the GR71 towards La Sagne. The route follows the road up from the village at first to reach a small footpath to your left. This takes you through shaded woods to reach a farm. Keep left down to a small lake and left to climb up to reach a buvette at Le Pioch. (You can enjoy refreshments here if you wish). Keep left to reach the cross and menhir stone. Keep left and soon you will reach the little hamlet of la Metairie with it's old bread oven. Turn right into the village, then left at the end of it down a small shady path. Keep left near the farm and right onto the small road before turning left down another small shady path. At the main road, turn left and cross after about 50m, taking the small road to the river opposite. Turn left after crossing the bridge and continue on the shady route to reach the hamlet of La Mouline Base. There are two ways to do this bit. (Turn left and right at the bridge) or what we did this time. In the hamlet turn right and right after the long stone barn. The little path takes you up through the trees to reach a left turn. Then turn right at the small cross up another tiny path to reach a house. The path keep right of the house and takes you to the road. At the junction cross straight over and now you are on the sentier Prevert. Follow this path with its signs made by the local children to reach a little stream crossing then up and over a small incline that has little cover from the sun (this is the only very short stretch of the route without shade). The path now takes you down to the village with a right turn onto a wide path and a left onto the road. Cross the bridge and you will find a lovely little café with welcome refreshments. Enjoy.
