Nepal was my 10th trek for Macmillan Cancer Support. I have been fund raising for them for nearly 14 years. I believe this is a very important thing to do as they help to improve the lives of so many people living with cancer.
During the time that I have been fund raising I have completed 22 treks in all; 9 with Macmillan and climbed many mountains, crossed desserts, visited counties all over the world and made many friends. Although my efforts in trekking have been quite exhausting at times, there can be no comparison with the challenges of people living with cancer.
Macmillan Cancer Support provide health experts, nurses, grants, advice and information, financial support and purpose built centres. Their specialist care goes beyond excellence - with nurses giving a very special service.
Over the years I have raised nearly £40 000, baked cakes, held quizzes, stalls at fetes, carnivals and fayres. I have given many talks, sold paintings, made BBQ's, cream teas and organised bike rides. Just some of the many ways that I have raised funds and told people of Macmillan's amazing work.
When I started fund raising 14 years ago, I was turning 40 and a mother of 3, busy with my work as a teaching assistant at a local school. I have had many ups and downs during this period, including having ME. Now I am a grandmother and proud to say that I support such a wonderful charity.
Please support Macmillan Cancer Support. They are such a special charity and do magnificent work, they care and are loved by all who they have helped.
My trek in Nepal involved long days, sore tired feet, lots of puff, sleeping in cold tents at high altitude with drop toilets and having to take medication to prevent my having the problems with high altitude that I have experienced before. The views were amazing and I made lots of new friends, but the best bit was knowing how many people that I have helped.
I always pay for my own flight etc. So all the money that you donate will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and help people living with cancer.
