Beautiful walk and picnic at Badbury Rings and King Down this morning.

Garston wood, Dorset.

Garston wood this morning. Go early if you want a parking space at the moment. The car park is quite small. Full by 10.30am but cars do park along the road too. Walk up to the lovely rapeseed field at the top first and then all the way do to the left (a little way back by the seat). Keep going and you will come to all the wild garlic too. At the second entrance turn left and then left again to going up through the middle (you are not near the road then and can enjoy the bird song). Turn right and walk through the area with the most bluebells (this is lovely for photographing the flowers or photoshoots and then left again, before passing through two gates to return to the car park. You will find this wood just north of Sixpenny handley, it's about 30 minutes from Verwood and is a very pretty ride through the yellow rapeseed fields.

King Down from Badbury Rings, Dorset.

King Down from Badbury Rings on the Kingston Lacy Estate today. B3082 from Wimborne Minster. Park in the main car park and then head north from the car park passing through two gates, then left and right to reach a small wooded area. Turn left walk to the next right turn in the tracks which passes a farm. Keep going on this long wide track until you reach a small footpath leading across a wheat field on a right turn. You will see two tumuli in the field, the second of which you can climb and makes a wonderful picnic spot to view the beautiful scenery. Now turn right onto the wide track and right again at the corner. This track passes a lovely bluebell wood on your left (there are little paths in the wood and it's very pretty at the moment). At the next junction you can chose to go left to the Eastern side of Badbury Rings(this is a wonderful route as you can walk across the whole hillfort and enjoy the views, bluebells and hillfort paths), or continue to the corner of the wood and return on the path that you started on. Allow at least 2 hours for this walk as you will want to walk around the hillfort itself and it's wonderful there. Easy walking.

Linford bottom

Linford bottom today. A lovely walk up through the forest by going through the gate at the car park and into the inclosure. Walk up the hill and turn right taking the main track to the end of the enclosure. Go through the gate and turn right to return on the track below the inclosure(this track can be very muddy at time, but is good at the moment). Lots of lovely spots for dogs and children to paddle in the stream and a large picnic area at each end of the walk. Takes around 1H. Lots of bluebells in the wood at the moment and plenty of super climbing trees too.
