Cabrieres.

Mines of Cabrieres. A wonderful walk of glorious views, wild flowers, birds and heavenly scenery. Around 8km. Yellow markers. 2.30H but we stretched it to 3H with a picnic and lots of photo stops. Plenty of parking at the top of the village. The walk starts opposite where the road joins from Valmascle. Cross the little stream and follow the little road as it goes uphill to your right. The first mine is on the opposite hill. We didn't see a soul on our walk so don't worry about the road, our dog was off the lead for the whole walk. Continue on this road as it becomes a track. Keep right a couple of times as the track flows through this beautiful valley. It's just lovely. Flowers, birds and the sound of goat bells and a herder calling them.on the distant hill. We stopped for coffee and listened to the skylarks and passed cabrerolles and an old stone cross. It's here at the cross that you turn right. Just around the corner you will enjoy wonderful views of the plain as it stretches towards the sea. We picnicked here and listened to the wind in the little pines and the birds singing. It was then that I heard the sound of children playing too and we shortly saw the village of Peret below with it's church ringing out for the half hour. Our route now turns to the right taking the little forest track uphill. Keep right once more and you will be rewarded at the end of the climb by the most wonderful views of Pic-de-vissou, Montagne de Liausson and Mont St Baudille to the north, where as to the south the views are glorious too of the plain. Keep heading west on this track, the flowers are magical up here; thyme in great banks rolling down the slopes and ladyslipper too. You will pass two more ancient mines on the tops. At the next junction of paths keep right and right again at the following one. Once you join the main track again turn right once more and right again just before a signpost near one of the larger cabrerolles. The signs here are interesting and tell about the geology, history and flora of this lovely area. This tiny path delivers you to a vineyard where you turn right to arrive shortly in the village once again. When you see the yellow walk post on the other side of the road go down this little road back to car parking area. http://www.randodoc.com/?page_id=7818
