A circuit of the Caroux from Mons

A very beautiful walk today up on the Caroux. 6h30. Starting in Mons and following red/yellow markers to the col de Bartouyre, then red dots to reach the Refuge de Font Salesse. After this I take a little blue dot to the Roc du Caroux, crossing the stream along the way. It's up along my favourite path then to Jasse de l'Ermite. From here I go down the unmarked path to reach the Col de l'Airole. Now left down the GR 7 marked red/white through the beautiful old chestnut wood to the hamlet of Heric. I turn left down the gorge d'heric here but if you wish you can go into the hamlet and find the little buvette (cafe). At the bottom of the gorge I take the red/yellow markers back through the woods to Mons. A very lovely walk. Up on the mountain the only sounds you here are those of nature. An occasional stream or the breeze in the pines, but today it was all peace and beauty. Hardly a bird stirred but the sun shone all day and was melting the last remnants of icicles.
