Les Barralets, Assignan

Les Barralets, Assignan. A delightful circular walk of 6.5km. Takes around 2 hours. Many beautiful views of the hills, valleys and vineyards. The walk starts at the rather oversized and ambiguous car park in Assisgnan (it's not sure whether it's a football pitch, bus stop, petanque area or car park, but it does also have a small shop within it). Now turn left and walk along the road to the statue of christ and then turn left to enjoy a small stone path up through the causse, keep right and reach a crossroads of paths. Go straight over and up to a view point where you look down over the vineyards to a lovely old chapel and a cross on top of a beautiful causse. The path turns left and goes up onto an open causse where you come to some fine views of the valley below and the hills around. Simply beautiful and a good spot for a picnic. Keep left and take the small path leading down to the road. Turn left, there is a small pond here just before the ruins of an old windmill. Turn left and right down a small track to reach the village just before an old cross. Take the right fork of the village to see more of the lovely old buildings, the castle town, church and many wine related buildings. Walk 27 of the OT leaflets.
