Canto Merle, Pouzolles

Canto Merle, Pouzolles. 6.5km/2h10, blue. What a glorious walk it was today. The flowers and scenery sparkled in the warm spring sunshine. With bees and butterflies out too is was just a perfect day for a walk in the beautiful countryside around Pouzolles. The walk starts from the centre of Pouzolles. Walk south, heading out of the village and then turn right up a grassy slope to a small car park. Turn right and walk through the village until you reach a left turn. The little track takes you past the cemetery and an old windmill ruin. The track continues to a place where you can either take the grassy track on your right or continue on to reach a small road and then double back to your right. Keep going on this track through the delightful vineyards to reach a small cross (If you are feeling tired at this point you can return on the track to your right) otherwise go straight over an up the grassy track to reach a little path through a gap. The track continues on an up over a lovely puech with wonderful and far reaching views. From here you can see towards the coast inland to the mountains and over towards the Pyrenees. At one point I counted 5 beautiful Chateaux all before me in this delightful landscape. Finally you reach a small building in a small oak wood before descending to the road. Now turn right onto this tiny road and follow it back into Pouzolles (it was so quiet that our dog was off the lead for the whole walk). Enjoy, it's just lovely.
