Le Chateau de Neyran, St-Gervais -sur-Mare. 5km/2H. Some waymakers. Start by taking the D972 west from St-Gervais-sur-mare,
Shortly after leaving the village you will see a right turn for the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Loreto, go down the lane and park in the car park under the avenue of beautiful trees.
Now cross the lovely medieval bridge and take the left path GR653 which is part of the St Jacques de Compostela route.
The little path narrows and continues to the top of the ridge. Leave the GR and take a tiny path on your right just under the ruins. The views are magnificent here in all directions. Stay and explore the ruins for a while or stop and drink in the scene.
It's very lovely and makes a wonderful coffee stop. Now head east towards the rocks. Here you will find more of the castle and beyond and down a small path with a handrail you will find the lovely belfry.
We sat he next to the church and enjoyed our picnic with fine views of both valleys below.
After you visit of the castle descend by the wide trail at the far eastern end that goes down to the road through chestnut woods. Once you reach the little road.
Turn right and follow the road for a goof km until you reach a tunnel entrance on your right. It's an old railway tunnel and not too dark.
This goes all the way through on a greenway to reach St-Gervais -sur-Mare. At the end of the wide track take the little track on your right through a small tunnel and walk past the row of new houses. At the end you will reach the main valley road.
Turn right and walk about 300m on the grass verge until you reach a crossing of the GR. If you want to visit the lovely old medieval village with it's beautiful church, little cafes and lovely narrow lanes turn left or right down the opposite lane if you want to return to the car.
A very lovely walk with fine views and lots of history, wild flowers and butterflies.
