Mauroul, near Olargues

Mauroul, near Olargues. This lovely walk is only short, taking around 45 minutes for an explore and enjoying the beautiful falls. The falls are wonderful. It has some wonderful mountain views if you wander out from under the trees on your way back. The most pretty village and a lovely restaurant too. Three great picnic spots and lots of information about the trees and shrubs there. I love the little story about the dragon rock; - Once there was a land of pixies and elves. The people lived peacefully in keeping with nature. One day a dragon came from over a mountain path to the valley. The people in the village were very frightened of him and asked god for his help. God answered their prayers almost straight away and the dragon was turned to stone. There he remains to this day waiting for you to visit him.
It's a circular walk, although very short I would not agree with the OT who say it is a very easy one. After parking just outside the village walk down to the first falls on a small track after that it becomes more difficult with tiny, stepped paths and a few railings. Go over the bridge to see the source- the water is like Iron brew, but the river is very pretty here. Back across the stream and following the path to your left you can visit the long waterfall and to the right you can continue with the walk and takes in a number of lovely falls. This walk has lots of ups and downs, step little paths and slippy paths when wet but is an absolute delight.
