Gorge d'heric, Roc de L'Homme, Beylot Ferranti, petite suisse and the col de Bartouyre, Mons.

Gorge d'heric, Roc de L'Homme, Beylot Ferranti, petite suisse and the col de Bartouyre. Amazing walk/climb up the side of the gorge d'heric using a tiny blue route that ascends the rocks over the ridge that forms the edge of the gorge. This is not a route for dogs or children and you must be fit and able to climb vertical sections of rock along the outward route. Although there are markers all the way along this route it's not a route for those who have never attempted this type of route before. Starting in Mons, walk to the gorge following the red/yellow markers. Then once in the gorge cross the first small bridge to the yellow markers. Turn right and round the corner on this little path. At a gully you will find a blue marker heading up. Follow these markers along little ledges and up through the trees to cross a small draille coming up from La coste (this joins the main route to the col de Bartouire). Continue following the blue markers past a rock shelter and just past it on the left you will find a small opening to pass through. Now the walking becomes climbing and scrambling. If you are not happy here I would return at the first difficult section. I made the mistake of taking my collie dog along with me and I didn't have a climbing harness for her. She fell on me at one point as it was too vertical for her. the route continues over rock sections and between trees sections. The views are amazing. It's an exciting route over lovely rock. When you see the col coming into view you still have a long way to go but only one more rock section to cross. Now the route crosses to the St Martin side of the col as it goes up to the col. Keep left near to the rocks as it's not that easy to follow the blue markers in the trees. The route comes out at the col and then turns right passing the stone cairns and one zigzag to reach the st Martin path back down. This is a lovely rocky path and is quite steep in places. Great views again here. As the route continues it passes through chestnut woods and crosses a new bridge. Now in the hamlet of st Martin turn right and then left following a blue route down a pretty old path to rejoin the yellow route back to the gorge and the Mons. I was out for 4 hours. It's not a long route, about 9km but not an easy other either.
